Thunderstorm Drops 8 Inches of Rain in NC
A thunderstorm last night that moved slowly near Concord, North Carolina (northeast of Charlotte, near where I grew up actually) dropped a lot of rain. WSOC has a video showing flooding damage to a home in Concord.
The amount is in question, but it was over 8 inches if you believe the Greer Radar, the dark grey is 8-10 inches on the image above (the NWS Gauge-Adjusted Precip image also indicated this). The SERCC Twitter feed says Concord, NC COOP Station reports 6.31 in. of rain. This would be the 4th wettest one day rain. Records began in 1933. # 1 is 8.80 8/27/2008." SInce that matches the radar, it's plausible that over 8 inches fell to the northwest. The storm was over the area for over 4 hours. Here's a radar shot during the height of the storm:
NOTE: Don't believe the 14.7" of maximum rainfall on the radar image above, this was caused by city/mountain clutter near the radar itself.
