This Weekend in Weather Photos
We are starting to get some really exciting newsworthy weather photos uploaded to the brand-new AccuWeather.com Photo Gallery this weekend.
First and foremost, they are still fighting the fires today in southern California, and the Topanga fire has burned a total of 24,000 acres so far (UPI). How big is 24,000 acres? That's about 37 miles, which is slightly smaller than the entire city of Philadelphia, so this fire is a big concern. Fortunately, this weekend should prove better, with more favorable weather to fight fires (see graphic below).

Bill Westphal (wb6ypf), a WeatherMatrix Member who lives in Altadena, CA (and who has an unbelieveable collection of beautiful photos), took the above shot, and two others, yesterday at the Burbank fire.
Next up, a few shots from searose3, who took some photos of the rough surf and heavy rain associated with the cold front that doused me on Thursday.
Slowly but surely, more damage photos from Katrina are showing up. Weather or not has uploaded a number of powerful photos, including the one below, taken in his ravaged home town of New Orleans, LA.

Finally, on the autumn tip, we got our first Fall Foliage map up on the site on Friday. We will update this on Fridays throughout October, if you're looking to find fall color on a weekend jaunt. Since we haven't had much for color here in Central PA yet, I uploaded some photos to the gallery which were taken during the last really pretty fall, in 2002.
