The White Christmas of 1966
Blog reader Elayne inquired about information from the White Christmas of 1966 in Philadelphia. While I couldn't find out a lot of information about the storm, it is listed as the record White Christmas for many cities in this (earlier) Cornell report. There is also a summary of the storm in New York on The Daily Star's site.
And it turns out that this storm created the meteorological spark in one of our own, Bob Larson. His biography (PREMIUM | PRO) reads:

I'll defer to Bob for a more detailed explanation (he may post something in his blog), but as you can see by the NOAA Historical Weather Map shown above, a strong high pressure system over Canada was delivering a massive Arctic flow into the Northeast, causing frigid temperatures (see below) as a huge Nor'easter developed and moved up the coast.
