The JVC CD Player
Blog reader Alissa asked what kind of CD player I have at my desk (located underneath the parrot on the The J-CAM).
The answer:
It's a JVC FS-2000 mini audio system, probably 10 years old. It was my father's; he passed away in 2000 and had a knack for collecting cool audiophile gadgets.
THE JVC FS-2000
My headphones are hooked up to it using a dongle which converts the left & right RCA audio cords into a 1/8 headphone jack (shown below). I use it to play CDs and I also run the computer sound in there so I can switch back and forth to streaming audio Music I Enjoy [My Bio], such as XM Radio Online. It is a high-quality unit and has obtained rave reviews at AudioReview.com.
THE RCA DONGLE
Island Record has the only photo that I could find of the original system (since I was just using the headphones here at work, I removed the speakers to use at home). They list the main features below.
- Champagne gold finish
- Real Cherrywood speaker enclosures
- Full-function remote control
- Clock display illumination while power is off
The only problems I've had with the system are that the CD cover (which has an electronic release and opens up from the top, download short movie to watch) sometimes sticks, and the front display is not as bright as it used to be. But I assume both of these are due to 10 years of use.
