The Christmas Storm Train is Rollin!
AccuWeather has now made an official map out of the weather situation that I reported on unofficially last week.
The storms are still on track to affect much of the East (though less snow will fall on the coast). In fact my forecast for Christmas Day on AccuWeather.com currently says:
OUCH! You're not reading that wrong, we're predicting a HIGH RealFeel temperature of -3 (low -7) with high winds and snow on Christmas Day.
And yes, the two Forecast Models [JessePedia] that predict snow out that far are showing a good snowstorm around Christmas (the GFS is shown below, the DGEX agrees but puts it one day earlier).
I gotta say - despite those maps - being a week out, I think it's pretty remote that I'll get a White Christmas (defined as snow falling on December 25th) here in State College, Pennsylvania, home of AccuWeather HQ [Google Map]. Model timing (if not overall storm type) is really bad this far out. Chances are it won't be right on Christmas Day (and knowing the GFS, the snow won't be as strong or as close to the coast as it shows). But it's something to keep an eye on.
