The Big Storm Begins!
I've been impressed with the tenacity of the cold air within today's winter storm... look at this graph from our weather station here at AccuWeather HQ... this time yesterday morning it was 55 degrees and now it's 22 and still falling. Any concerns I had yesterday about the ground not being cold enough for accumulation are over. Stay tuned to my blog today for accumulation reports, and help me out by entering yours on the SnowMatrix.
Temperatures are below freezing from southern PA and central NJ northward.
Our forecast snowfall amounts have only continued to increase, and jumped from 4 inches to 10.5 inches overnight for the local prediction here in State College, and we're sneaking that 6-inch line even further southwest on our map, now extending into westernmost Maryland. Ironically (because it's so late) this could be the biggest storm of the season for many places.
Overall I think we'll be impressed by how well this late-season storm does. AccuWeather.com Professional's Joe Bastardi [BIO] (PRO)
is also impressed and goes into more details in his blog this morning:
