Super Typhoon Durian pounded the Philippines this week. Death tolls range from 160 to 406 this morning, with estimates over 600. News articles about the storm are aplenty. Jim Andrews (PREMIUM | PRO) has been covering the storm well this week; see his blog for more information.
Durian is currently moving toward Vietnam and is expected to make landfall as a Tropical Storm, according to the Navy.
Residents take shelter on the riverbank in Albay province, Philippines, Friday, Dec. 1, 2006 after super typhoon "Durian" lashed the country's main island of Luzon in central and northeastern Philippines overnight. The typhoon smashed into the Philippines with heavy rains and winds gusting up to 265 kph (165 mph), spawning flash floods and sending walls of muddy volcanic ash and red-hot boulders crashing down on several villages, officials said Friday. The national Office of Civil Defense reported 198 people were killed and 260 were missing. (AP Photo/Bullit Marquez)
