Sunset and Awesome Clouds From New York City!
I was lucky enough again this year to have AccuWeather send me to Social Media Week in New York City last week and even luckier to get these awesome photos Thursday and Friday:
This sunset photo (see also vertical) was taken from the observation deck of the Hampton Inn on Watts Street. I had been stuck in traffic in a cab for 20 minutes and finally decided to get out and walk.
That was when I noticed the sunset peeking through the tall buildings. It was raining lightly and a weak rainbow was visible to my east. I snapped the pic below of One World Trade Center before taking the elevator to the deck and shooting the photo above.
The night before, my wife and I went up to the "Top of the Rock," an observation deck that competes with the Empire State Building. It has a larger observation area and is low enough to still capture the details of the buildings. It just so happened that Asperatus clouds were above the skyline when I snapped this pic:
I got out of a seminar uptown around 7:30 p.m. and took these shots of the night skies (it was just starting to rain again). I'm fascinated how you can always see the clouds at night in NYC (in this case, the ground lights caused a shadow on them, see also this second photo).
The above photos were taken with my Nikon 1 J2 camera, and processed with Oloneo PhotoEngine. I also uploaded some cell phone weather pics on Instagram as well, earlier in the week. I saw my first snow in NYC on Tuesday...
Then heavy rain slowed me down on Wednesday:
And the Rockefeller Center buildings outside AccuWeather's NYC office were in the clouds on Friday afternoon, just before we went to the "Top of the Rock."
