Stan / Front Flood CentAm
Just like Katrina and Rita did here in the U.S., Hurricane Stan shut down Mexican-run oil platforms and ports as it came onshore today in the state of Veracruz. Mexican radars from that area were unavailable as the storm came onshore. High waves and flooding were reported.
A tropical front out ahead of Stan wreaked havoc on Monday, killing 59 people in landslides affecting much of Central America, including El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica (where are these places?).
According to a NASA TRMM satellite image, shown above, total rainfall totalled over 10 inches at mid-day Tuesday, but many areas of Central America had received nearly 15 inches in the past week. Movies are avaialable here.
