Sorry, MT Students: Satellite Crashes
A cube-shaped satellite called MEROPE is believed destroyed in Russia when a rocket carrying it crashed after takeoff this week. Unfortunately, it was the state of Montana's first satellite to be deployed into space and it was designed as a prototype of the small, quickly built satellites by undergraduate students at . Sadly, the MEROPE website has not been updated since the expected-launch press release, and the official website for the cubesats (there were 13 others on the launch) says simply "CubeSats are not active due to launch failure." Looking a little further, I did find an updated page which admitted (not in so many words) that the rocket had crashed and promises more information as updates warrant.
