Softball-Sized Hail, 80 MPH Winds
There was only a slight risk for severe storms on Tuesday, according to the government's Storm Prediction Center, but hundreds of severe weather reports were issued.
According to the WeatherMatrix StormMatrix, which gathers government storm reports, four tornadoes touched down on Tuesday, hail to 4.25" (softball size) has been reported by a spotter in Humbolt, Kansas, and 178 high wind reports were issued, with speeds clocked to 80 mph.
At 8:45 Central time Tuesday night, AccuWeather.com Professional's National Storm Table showed hail of up to 2.75" in diameter detected on the Sioux Falls radar, along with 65 mesocyclones.
