OPHELIA UPDATE: 9PM Eastern: The Cape Lookout CMAN station is at 75 mph gusting to 92 mph, and has pressure dipping to 29.10" inside Hurricane Ophelia.
PLAINS UPDATE: 9PM Eastern: 50 mesocyclones with hail to 3.5" are on radar in OK/TX at this time. Spotter reports of hail to 2.75" in Oklahoma, wind to 71 mph in Texas
So I'm sitting here at the volleyball field observing the hurricane on the laptop (my daughter's team is practicing today). This is possible thanks to the Verizon AirCard555, the best thing since buttered toast, which gives 40-60K internet over most of the Northeast.
A moderate risk of severe storms has popped up on the screen from the government's Storm Prediction Center. This risk covers southwest Oklahoma and Northwest Texas and the threat is damaging winds and perhaps tornadoes. A Tornado Watch has been issued for the area. AccuWeather.com Professional's National Storm Table showed, at 6 p.m. Central, 26 mesocyclones detected in the area, with hail to 2.75" in diameter, according to the Lubbock radar.
