Snow / Fall Foliage Photos
Here in Centre County, Pennsylvania (home to State College, Penn State University, and AccuWeather HQ) we received between 1 and 8 inches of snow on Tuesday. It was an unusually early snowfall.*
The opportunity presented itself to take some beautiful photos, mixing the snow cover with the mediocre fall foliage in our are. I took a number of photos yesterday, some of which are available now and some of which will be online Thursday night. Photos from the event were also uploaded by nagelberg, who works as a forecaster for AccuWeather. A few are shown below.
This also qualifies as the first snow on the AccuCam. See also the WeatherMatrix weather webcam from yesterday.
*How early was it? Well, at the risk of being corrected by some of the more seasoned local forecasters (I've only lived here for 8 years) records indicate that the earliest significant (more than a trace) snowfall that I could find in State College was October 17, 1977, so this would appear to be the earliest snowfall in at least 28 years. This even beats the 2002 fall snowfall, an occasion on which I was able to take more spectacular photos due to a later leaf peak. That year was actually a two day event which featured sleet and freezing rain as well.
The AccuWeather parking lot is a frequent place to take pictures of fall foliage -- nagelberg took this photo yesterday about 20 feet away from where I took this one in 2002, facing the opposite direction (note the red bushes).
