Sigh: Warmest January Ever
It's official. January 2006 has already become the warmest January in history according to AccuWeather.com forecasters.
This, of course, will be fodder for the global warming crowd, as last month's record cold was for the opposite side. I don't even want to go there but if you do, you can talk about it over on our forums. And if you have a sense of humor, check out this clip on Global Warming from George Bush -- er, Will Ferrell.
City-by-city, the stats vary. This article says that January was the warmest since 1950 in Nashville, TN. It's the second-warmest in Green Bay, Wisconsin but the third warmest in Baltimore.
So what happened to winter? The answer is pretty simple: the cold air (which morphs around the North Pole during the winter) has stayed on the opposite side of the world.
AccuWeather Meteorologist John Kocet explains further on our Weather Headlines (PREMIUM | PRO):
AccuWeather.com Professional's Joe Bastardi's headline to his blog today says it all:
FRANTIC FEBRUARY IN THE MAKING AS WINTER SHIFTS TO OUR SIDE OF THE POLE
