Severe Weather Photos - Iowa To India!
As Henry and I gear up for possible chase time today in Central Pennsylvania, I wanted to take a moment to mention a few beautiful severe weather photographs which have recently been submitted by the AccuWeather.com Weather Photo Gallery users worldwide. Click on any photo to enlarge.
First, this intense lightning photo taken Sunday in Austin, Texas by StreetRanger:
Another great lightning shot from weaderman, taken in Marblehead, Massachusetts, on May 16th:
weaderman says: "Two luminous paths merge about two-thirds the distance below cloud base suggesting a ground initiated event yet tendrils suggest this bolt started from the cloud. Perplexing!"
Next, a photo of a thunderstorm in Iowa, taken Saturday by jeromemck, who was driving across the state:
Turns out Saturday was a popular day for severe storm photography. Here's another pic snapped that day of a thunderstorm in Onalaska, Wisconsin by jameso5491. The sunset is on the right, and do you notice the water in the fields below? Makes you feel like you're there, I love those kinds of photos.
Next up, and these may be my favorites, from Mumbai, India, two impressive photos during a thunderstorm there, taken by swamysk, also on Saturday June 2nd:
I mean, how often are you able to capture debris flying around the city in a still photograph? Those photos are a great reminder that severe thunderstorms occur worldwide, not just here in the United States.
And last but not least, one of my blog readers, lisarose, storm chased in the Plains last month. I had mentioned this in an earlier blog, but she has uploaded two videos to the gallery (the first two links below), in addition to the photos previously mentioned.
