Severe Thunderstorm in Brazil
A severe thunderstorm struck Brazil's capital of Porto Alegre on Friday night, causing the heaviest rain in decades. Below is a NASA TRMM satellite rainfall estimate image, showing the intense rain over the city. You can also take a look at a movie of the precip estimates, showing the clusters of thunderstorms develop in Argentina and move northeastward as an intense line. Also available, we have a world satellite loop during the time period.
The photo above is used with permission by Jaqueline Estivallet through the Climatologia Urbana Weather Center in Sao Leopoldo, Brazil.
She also took this scary photo of a double-decker gust front. A shot of the local paper showing a flooding rescue is also available.
