"Portions of central Russia dawned bitterly cold Wednesday. At Vanavara, for example, the early morning low was -19 degrees; this mark was about 35 degrees below average."

This may be a harbinger of things to come. PeterboroughToday in the U.K. reports that the winter will bring in unusually cold Russian air and the U.K. Met office is predicting the coldest winter in 10 years.
