But much of the precipitation was virga (not reaching the ground). The following reports of note occurred in the Deep South late Tuesday or overnight:
- Snow was reported in southeast North Carolina (just now, at 7 AM at Lumberton, NC).
- Sleet was reported in east-central Mississippi (Meridian), central Alabama (Montgomery and Troy), and central Georgia.
- Blog reader Ryan reported 1/8 of an inch of sleet in Montgomery, AL between 5 and 7 pm.
- Unknown Precip [JessePedia] was reported in southern Louisiana and Mississippi.

And as we start the sixth day of this winter storm system, heavy snow and freezing rain is falling across Texas. CBS and other news sources have some good photos and video. In areas far south such as Austin, where many highways were closed, they say similar weather has only happened once or twice in the last 20 years. In fact, government weather advisories covered the entire state of Texas, save the southernmost counties which has Frost/Freeze warnings in effect.
Temperatures across nearly the entire state were below freezing this morning.
