Rain: 50-Car Pileup Near Raleigh, NC
UPDATE:
WRAL-TV.com is confirming that 50 vehicles were involved in 10 accidents this morning, the first of which occurred around 7:30 a.m. in heavy rain.
The radar image below from AccuWeather.com RadarPlus shows moderate, but not unusual rain, at the area of the accident just prior to the time that WRAL quoted. Even though the rain was not unusually heavy, a little driver error (and a lot of traffic) goes a long way.

I used to live in Raleigh and I remember the bumper-to-bumper morning commutes. The flat land in the area also is conducive to frequent hydroplaning and it seemed like you'd see several cars off the road during each rainstorm.
