Radar: T-Storm Damages Cowboys Facility
UPDATE MONDAY: NOTE near the end of the raw video below - there is a photo of the microburst/downburst in action... I have never seen anything like this before, and it's not clear to me what the dark "upside down tornado" is -- I know it signifies the winds coming down as illustrated here, but what is it filled with, rain or cloud? What do you think? Leave a Comment below.
ORIGINAL POST SATURDAY NIGHT: If you were watching J's Breaking Weather News (at right) earlier tonight you would have seen information about a thunderstorm damaging the Dallas Cowboys practice facility, initially reported by this newspaper. Several people were injured. To quote from our Weather Headlines (PREMIUM | PRO):
Here are some radar images from around the time of the collapse (the field is located in Irving, Texas). Based on these, I don't agree with the assessment above that it was a bow echo, but certainly it was high straigh-line winds caused by the thunderstorm, possibly a microburst. The first shot is from MapSpace™ (formerly known as Enhanced Radar); the second two, showing the wind field (velocity data) are from AccuWeather.com RadarPlus. Tomorrow, I can show you a lightning strike image.
