Radar Loops from Deadly Storms
Here is a link to a list of 46 local radar animations that I created from 14,434 images that I saved from Saturday's severe weather outbreak. Fortunately, the saving of the images was automatic -- but not the animation (gotta work on that).
State and Regional satellite and radar loops are coming soon (tonight or tomorrow) Watch this blog entry.
The storms had some great structure, and if you've ever wanted to see an outflow boundary on radar, check this one out.
ABOUT THAT MINNESOTA TORNADO:
Some of you have pointed out that I have neglected to mention, in my post about Saturday's outbreak, that there was an F2 tornado which struck the town of Rogers, Minnesota, killing a 10-year old girl and damaging hundreds of homes (see CNN article and video). This happened after I went to bed that night and I was already scooped on the story by the time I found out about it Sunday afternoon. The tornado was not reported initially in the NWS's storm spotter reports, but rather by the media. Here is what the NWS says about it today:
Radar reflectivity image from the Chanhassen WSR-88D at 9:54 pm CDT, near the time the tremendous damage occurred in Rogers (near the middle of the image). [SEE LOOP]
Storm relative velocity reflectivity image from the Chanhassen WSR-88D at 9:54 pm CDT, near the time the tremendous damage occurred in Rogers (near the middle of the image). The green colors indicate air moving toward the radar (located to the south-southwest of Rogers), while the red colors indicate air moving away from the radar. The measurements inside the aqua blue circle in the center of the image indicate very intense counter-clockwise rotation (~100 knots of shear) in the low levels of the storm. [SEE LOOP]
