R.I.P. WeatherMatrix.Net 1996-2010
Today I have finally shut down the WeatherMatrix.Net website, which had been online for 14 years. WeatherMatrix was the first, and for a long time, the largest, collection of online weather enthusiasts, and from it I took my blog's name a few years ago. By the time AccuWeather took over the organization in 2005, we had over 14,000 members.
It was a bittersweet moment for me, but it's not like all the weather enthusiasts, amateur and professional meteorologists and storm chasers have disappeared. Most of them were transferred to the AccuWeather.com Photo Gallery and Forums in 2005, and many have now resurfaced in our 85,000 Facebook Fans, all three groups which I administrate. I have always felt at home at the helm of these large groups of weather people.
Coming later today, a list of resources that can help you find weather information that was previously available on WeatherMatrix, and coming soon, a more complete history of my journey with our weather community from the early days of the Internet to the present, starting at the beginning...
