I wanted to take a second to pass along these notes from William Schmitz - Service Climatologist/Meteorologist at the Southeast Regional Climate Center:
1. Columbia, SC records indicate that a 11-day below-freezing (32 degrees) streak was achieved this November. Previous records (going back to 1887!) for November show nothing more than two 7-day streak in 1950 and 1970.
2. Snow flurries were reported at the following locations on Tuesday November 18, 2008 (These are not all the locations that saw snow just some that are a bit more uncommon):
Wilmington, NC New River Marine Core Air Station, NC Chapel Hill, NC Raleigh Durham AP, NC North Myrtle Beach, SC Mullins, SC For a more comprehensive report on the cold records in mid-November, consult this PDF from William or the official NCDC records website.
