Promo: Of Warministas and Bodybuilding
Now there's something you don't see every day on The J-CAM: Muscle & Fitness Magazine. (You can probably tell, but I'm not much of a body builder). But there's a reason for it this time. Our very own Joe Bastardi has a 8-page spread in the January 2007 issue. It's quite a read.
Some of the events in Joe's life that they quote:
- Gave weather while dressed as a turkey on Weather World (which they incorrectly called Weather Watch)
- Performed as the singer of The Hooligans in various dive bars (once in a bear costume)
- Served as a judge at a chili cook-off in Tucumari, New Mexico (there's a joke in there somewhere)
- Been appointed town weatherman of Lewisville, NC (and probably other towns he doesn't know about)
- Been named honorary police chief of Shreveport, LA (I'd love to know the story behind that one)
- Trained a two-time Olympic Wrestler (Kerry McCoy - 2000, 2004)
- Trains every day at Body Works gym here in State College (and also in his home "dungeon")
- Started lifting in college to improve his quickness as a wrestler (he still wrestles today)
- His father was a meteorologist (and Joe started at age 5)

And that's just in the first few paragraphs. The colorful article also draws a comparison between the most devastating hurricanes, which grow in size and intensity before they hit land, and Joe, who insists on doubling his water consumption and gaining strength before a show. And they gracefully call Joe's approach to Global Warming "un-Gorelike" and speak of his term "warministas" which Joe reserves for "folks such as Gore who fear Global Warming" to quote the article.

Unfortunately the article is not available online, so you'll have to pick up a copy at your local newsstand.
