Plains, Midwest Blizzard Snow Totals
Nebraska has reached the 30 inch mark this afternoon, and the Tri-Cities area has broken several winter records. The National Weather Service office in Grand Island, Nebraska reports that 24 and 48-hour snowfall records have been broken in Hastings and Grand Island, among other records.
Chris Burt, author of "Extreme Weather", a comprehensive guide to which I frequently refer, adds: "According to AccuWeather 25.0" of snow fell in 24 hours in Chambers, NE on 3/19-20. If true, this would constitute an all-time state snowfall record for Nebraska, eclipsing the previous record for 24 hours of 24.0â€Â recorded on 2/11/1965 at Hickman, NE."
Also the NWS in Lincoln, Illinois reports that the blizzard conditions experienced this morning are the first such conditions in 24 years.
