Photos, Video from Our Fall Thunderstorm
As I've stated before, 2007 has been a heck of a nice severe weather season here in Central PA, and Meteo Madness Man, Local storm chaser Ron "R-Factor" Shawley and I have been doing a lot of severe weather photography and videography all summer. This week, we got what might be our last (for the season) line of thunderstorms that overtook AccuWeather HQ here in State College, PA on Tuesday, October 9th. You can view the entire set of photos here; I've picked out some of my favorites below. Henry also uploaded a couple of videos.
Here's the radar setup (Henry and I were at the bright blue "X"):
It was a dying line of storms producing a gust front, that started to reorganize and intensify as it moved over us. Here's a panorama:
I took several neat timelapses of the gust front approaching. If you watch those, you can see kind of a second gust front overtake the first from inside the storm as it was intensifying.
There wasn't a lot of lightning, though I caught these shots (both from the same strike) on the back end of the storm with my HI8 camcorder:
I call the photo below "Henry Vs. The Storm" and it really does a good job of comparing nature to miniscule man (no offense, Henry). It turned out so well that I've added it to my "Best Of" photos set, which showcases the best photos I've taken over the years. He's videotaping the storm facing west (the AccuWeather building and satellite dishes are on your right).
