Photos of PSU Stadium, Other Wind Damage
Winds over 50 mph knocked down trees and branches county-wide today in State College, Pennsylvania, home of AccuWeather HQ [Google Map]. Power was knocked to over 1,000 customers (including us at AccuWeather HQ for about 70 minutes, thank goodness we have backup power). Some of the local wind gusts:
Penn State Walker Building: 53 mph My House: 49 mph AccuWeather HQ: 42 mph
Here are 12 pictures I took of the damage... at Beaver Stadium, home of PSU's Nittany Lions, an ill-conceived maintenance timeframe led to parts of the scoreboard being blown onto roads (causing their closure) and at least one car.
South of town on Route 45, an 80-foot barn and silo collapsed, killing more than a dozen farm animals.
I took several photos of trees and branches down.
The winds aren't limited to here but in fact have caused damage all over the Northeast. Here's a map of the local storm reports received by the National Weather Service as of 3 PM:
And last night in Michigan, more than 100,000 lost power.
