Photos: 2 Feet of Snow, Fall Color
AccuWeather.com Photo Gallery user vaseleco uploaded a panroma, of which part is shown below, and says the picture shows "Snowfall from the night of September 15th into the 16th in the southern Salt Lake Valley looking westward towards the Oquirrh Mountains."
The first strong winter storm system of the season brought snow to the Pacific Northwest, mountains of British Columbia and Alberta, and Northern Rockies at the end of last week and over the weekend.
Snow levels were as low as 3500 feet yesterday. The Great Falls NWS office issued this warning Saturday: "SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 6 TO 12 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE ABOVE 5000 FEET WITH LOCAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 2 FEET POSSIBLE OVER THE HIGHER MOUNTAINS."
Official snowfall observations as of this afternoon reported 12" in the Pintlar Mountains, MT and 11 inches in Alta City, Utah. Winds gusted to 65 mph at official observing stations.
But other western photographers were covering the fall color, instead of snow, in our Photo Gallery. User byepass took this photo along the highway in Boulder, Colorado:
And GeinaC shows us the fall color from Vancouver, British Columbia, specifically "Fall colour along the seawall of Stanley Park. Lions Gate Bridge."
This weekend's Ap Photos of the Day have shown both Fall Color and Snow at Vail, Colorado and relate the snow to better fire conditions in Washington State:

Smoke trickles from the remains of the Tripod Fire in northcentral Washington, where light snow fell at higher elevations Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006. The fire has burned about 270 square miles of state and federal forest land, creeping to within a quarter-mile of the Canadian border. Cooler temperatures, rain and snow aided firefighters' efforts.
