Pennsylvania Triple Shelf Cloud, Mothership
Eastern Pennsylvania was darkened by a massive, triple-decker shelf cloud last night. It was the first thunderstorm of the year, and it did not disappoint. Here's a loop from our AccuCam in York, PA:
This almost looks like a mothership cloud, something that's extremely rare in Pennsylvania. I have to admit that I've never seen a triple-decker shelf cloud here either (you can count three shelves in the animation above, and in the first panoramic photo below).
The storms weren't even that powerful (proof you can get great storms pics in Pennsylvania without major supercell thunderstorms) though there was some street flooding. Here's what the radar looked like:
