Other Storms in the Northeast Tuesday Night
The intense lightning storm I witnessed here in Central PA last night (see blog entry updated with VIDEO, FINALLY) wasn't the only impressive storm yesterday -- storm spotter reports abounded from here to New York City (see map below). Blog reader Bart pointed out that Central Park and other parts of New York City had trees felled -- see video below from affiliate WABC and their text. Here's a radar image as the storm was moving through NYC:
Blog reader Shane also left a Comment on my blog today to say:
The storms also caused wind damage in Baltimore, felling a tree onto a car.
And Sean wrote on my Facebook Wall:
"Hey Jesse, I have many friends that live in Boyertown,PA that claim they saw a twister touch down in the middle of town. I was wondering if you have heard anything on this?"
Sean: Based on the Spotter reports at right, I'd say there was not a tornado - though there is no further information (i.e. storm surveys) from the NWS in Philadelphia or State College. Perhaps it was straight-line wind damage and a tornadic looking cloud? News-wise, there is one article with a tornado report mentioned, and more artciles talking about how severe the damage was.

Hey Jesse, That storm u showed, i was in the middle of it. I am thinking that it was a microburst, because the radar showed heavy rain over me but it was dry out side. Then a big blast of wind with heavy rain started passing by my window(Horizontally)with visibility dropping so bad that i could,nt see the street 8 ft below me. PS: A weather station very near to me recorded a sustain wind of 52 mph for 5 min.
