Ophelia Flood & Wind Report
UPDATE: This weather cam animation from Atlantic Beach yesterday is pretty neat.
At 8 a.m. Thursday, Hurricane Ophelia had weakened slightly and was centered offshore from Ocracoke Island, North Carolina. It continued to follow the coastline as it moved slowly to the northeast.
Rainfall amounts of 10 to 12 inches are common over a wide area of eastern North Carolina (see RadarPlus Doppler estimates below from the Wilmington and Morehead City radars). The bridge on Highway 210 was reported under water this morning, and one resident reported four feet of water in their backyard.
Photos from the storm are available via Flickr from WWAY-TV. They even have several of Oak Island, where power apparently remained on but flooding was extensive.
The Wilmington Star also has a photo gallery online and also some detailed beach damage information including where dune and road breaches occurred. They quote Kure Beach and Bald Head Island as having gusts of 84 mph. 65,000 are without power.
