Useless Blog, Email Stats For 2008
As I did last year, I'll give you some probably-useless stats on the number of blog entries for 2008, along with my yearly email assessment. As you probably know, I have officially been blogging for AccuWeather since August 2005, though I have argued before that I have actually been journaling the weather for 23 years.
In 2008, I did only 565 blog entries, nearly half of previous years, because I started using J's Breaking News (at right) to communicate quick observations, blog updates, or links to weather news stories. I did 945 "Tweets" (J's Breaking News started out using the Microblogging service Twitter (what?) but is now also picked up by my Plurk and Tumblr feeds, the latter also including non-weather and humorous factoids).
I showed or linked to 2,915 images, texts, and other files to you last year; a decrease from years past because most of the Tweets came without images, and because I have tried to reduce the time it takes to write blog entries by using less images per entry.
As you know, I don't stop blogging on the weekend because the weather doesn't stop. I only missed 7 days of blogging last year, compared to 6 the year before. I will strive to decrease that further in 2009, as long as you promise to read every day :)
I uploaded 1,564 videos last year, a considerable increase of the year before, but most of those were raw weather videos displayed at right, and few were personal videos, which I have gotten out of the habit of doing because they are so time consuming.
As far as email, which I reviewed at the end of last year, these were the stats:
SENT: 7,645 RECEIVED: 12,704 RECEIVED (AUTO): 32,558 SPAM: 36,566
Note this is a decrease in Sent email but an increase in Received, I think something that has to do with my boss not preferring to work via email, and my overall business in 2008 which reduced the number of emails that I could reply to and comment on. Due to that increased workload, I have started to comment less, concentrating on things that are more my forte and are more important to the success of the company. Previous years stats are shown below, I'll integrate this year's stats and reupload the graph tomorrow when I get back to work (ending a 2-week vacation).
There is also a big increase in the "auto" emails (meaning I receive them for notification purposes but don't necessarily look at each one) and (of course) spam. AccuWeather has implemented new spam software recently which seems to be drastically cutting down on that (thank goodness!).
