O.T.: Still No Cell Phones on Planes
Wired Magazine points out that the FCC ruled last week that people are still not allowed to use cell phones on airplanes. Why? If you've ever turned on a cell phone during a flight (which you're not supposed to of course!) you can tell that the signal is pretty good up there (not much between you and the towers).
Well, the reason ain't the interference, as Mythbusters proved, but they are still using that excuse. In addition, they cited panic from bad news and the annoyance of everyone talking loud on their cell phones at the same time.
A friend of mine, who will remain nameless, believes that it's the cell phone providers who ask that it be restricted -- because they couldn't handle the traffic, with hundreds of thousands of people in the air at all times.
