O.T.: Consumer Electronics Show
Geeks unite. The Consumer Electronics Show is underway in Las Vegas, Nevada this week.
My boss is there today. It's probably best for my credit cards' sakes that I'm not there, as it only feeds a fetish. I'm a bit of a gadget person, as you might guess since I have multiple webcams and weather stations transmitting from my house, in addition to the J-Cam monitoring me here at work.
Weather Beacon
Doubt me? I once considered having one of my weather stations power a series of colored light bulbs which would turn on or off depending on temperature (something that was done later much more professionally and more expensively by The Weather Beacon).
You can read the latest from the show or visit remotely through the USA Today CES Blog or the PC World CES Info Center (click for photos from Day 1 or Day 2 to see really good stuff).
But what if all these gadgets suck? Wired Magazine examines this possibility and it's a must-read for us all.
The hype that Google would offer a $200 computer with GoogleOS, sold through Wal-Mart appears to be overhyped, but their plans to sell video (read: tv shows) through their video search service is probably legit. Read more about Google CES Speculation.
In possibly unrelated news, Hammacher Schlemmer has come out with the Levitating Hover Scooter. It can be yours for a mere $17,000.
