O.T.: Blogitis and Yard Sale Report
As you know, it's rare for me to go a day without blogging, but yesterday, I was just so tired after I got home from the second day of yardsaling, instead of writing this blog entry, I collapsed in front of the TV (with the exception of driving to the other side of my development for a look at an impressive incoming storm, which I'll post pictures of soon).
I don't think some of my readers understand how physically exhausting yardsaling is, and every year we do it, there are muttered complaints of "I'm getting too old for this" like we're Danny Glover, even though my wife and I are only in our 30's.
First, there's the getting up early (which I don't normally do). We're talking 4:30 on Friday and 6:00 on Saturday (and only 6 hours sleep in between, which is about 3 short of what makes me feel acceptable on a normal day).
Add to that the physical strain (but good exercise) of hauling 2+ carloads of boxes, computers, etc. into the car, out of the car to the canopies (and then what didn't sell, back into the car again). This year we also helped my parents-in-law disassemble the 20x10 ft. canopies down, which took about an hour of struggling with rusted pipes and ungodly tight bungie cords.

Then finally, there's the being outside, which we just aren't used to, and I'm allergic to pollen, dust, and grass; the wife is allergic to the Gypsy Moth worms, and they were all in abundance yesterday. Add a little wind burn and sun burn too, and sprinkle some stress for negotiating prices and keeping an eye on the AccuWeather.com radar on my cell phone to estimate when to bring items back under cover.
So, was it all worth the $300 we made? We've been known to make three times that, but we got rid of some stuff (living in a small house, this is really appreciated) and now we have $300 we didn't have before. We were too tired to cook dinner so we blew $50 of it on Outback.
This morning, I'm in kind of an odd mood. I have the "yardsale hangover" combined with the "Outback hangover" so I'm not feeling too spiffy, but I had a dream last night about a high school reunion (where my mind managed to pick out dozens of faces I haven't seen or thought about for 17 years, amazing). I got up late to hear "The Beetle Years" on the shower radio, and now I'm burning some songs off of a few CDs I have from the 1950's-1970's (although I didn't live in this era, I went through a period of listening to music from that time period in high school after discovering a stash of Mom & Dad's records, among them Elvis, The Loving Spoonful, Donovan, The Beatles, and Bob Dylan). Hopefully the Beatles will be on iTunes soon.
