O.T.: 6 Feet of Separation
Carl is talking about the Grand Canyon today. Well I've got a 6-Degrees-Of-Separation and/or Small-World story for you. (Actually it's 6-Feet-Of-Separation, because that's how far Carl sits from me (that's his desk area you can see on the left side of my webcam).
It just so happens that, within minutes of Carl writing that blog, I happened to read in Wired Magazine over lunch, a story of a futuristic tourist attraction for the Grand Canyon which fascinates me. Called "The SkyWalk," it juts out into the air 4,000 feet above the floor of the Grand Canyon (check out the artist's rendering - way cool).
I say futuristic but in fact it's scheduled to open this summer. Here are some stats:
- Can withstand winds up to 100 mph
- Can withstand a 7.0 earthquake
- Costs them $30 million
- Costs you $25
- Supports 34,000 tons*
*So I don't have to try to calculate how many people are on it and how much they weigh to figure out whether it's safe or not (see me safely on the other side of the Mile High Swinging bridge at Grandfather Mountain, North Carolina, where you have to do just that).
