Northeast Thundersnow, the Latest Snowfall Reports
NOTE: Most of the cloud-to-ground strikes like those shown below have faded as of 8 PM. However, some cloud-to-cloud lightning (which wouldn't show up on our maps) could still be present in the strongest storms. Or, you could be hearing power transformers exploding as lines fall due to the heavy snow. A wide area of lightning caused many thunderstorm reports in the mid-Atlantic this afternoon and evening, and that thunder was sometimes accompanied by snow or sleet. Here is a list of NWS Spotter Reports, highest by state as of 8 PM -- heavy snow continues over much of the mid-Atlantic and Northeast, so I will issue a new list of reports Thursday morning.
