Northeast, SE Canada Snow Maps This Week
There will be multiple winter storm systems affecting the Northeast United States and Southeast Canada this New Years Week. It's a bit of a confusing situation on when and where the snow will fall, so I wanted to offer some clarification on our official forecast, via the AccuModel maps that are available (through 10 days out) on our Pro site. The maps below show Total Accumulated Snowfall, assuming nothing melts (bad assumption after the first storm on the fringes, good assumption as temperatures plunge mid-week).
First, a storm will move up the East Coast today, and snow will be seen on the west side of it, with a couple of inches in the Virginian Appalachians, with 3-4 inches through the mountains of NE Pennsylvania, New England, and parts of western Massachusetts.
TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATION BY NEW YEARS EVE...
Now, take that snowfall and add to that the fact that Mid-week, a clipper will move through southern Quebec and New England, followed by lake-effect snow in favored areas. The clipper will end up making the total snowfall in most of non-coastal New England 5 inches or more, and coating everyone in the Ohio Valley and those at elevation in the Northeast with at least a dusting of snow, with 3 inches of snow down the spine of the Appalachians by late-week.
TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATION BY WEDNESDAY EVENING...
And take all that and add a late-week, a powerful storm system sweeps through eastern Ontario, providing more snow there, for a total of more than 10 inches in eastern Quebec by the weekend. After that, even more snow is possible for eastern Canada.
TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATION BY FRIDAY MORNING...
