Northeast Rain, Louisiana Snow!
One more wallpaper!
It's an attractive collection of storms this morning on the radar - our soon-to-be-Nor'easter spinning snow over Louisiana and thunderstorms over Florida, and the existing low pressure and front on the East Coast. Below are some "wallpaper" radar shots from our Enhanced Radar which is now available on AccuWeather.com.
I just returned from our morning Map Discussion in Operations here at AccuWeather, Inc. and the key forecast that we are putting forward is:
1. Rain. There may be some snow on the back edge of the system (Henry has some more thoughts on that) but we don't expect it to accumulate in the major cities. There is ice on the back end of the system now, but so far it has not caused major travel disruptions.
2. Up to 3 inches of snow has fallen in eastern Texas and Louisiana -- this is rare, but not unprecedented for December. In some cases it is unprecedented for this early in December. The NWS says:
They also had thundersnow and are currently reporting Heavy Snow with 1/8 mile visibility in New Orleans! Check out the ParadeCam or the DOT cams there, above is one that I saved off.
UPDATE: UPI says 7,000 lost power and it was "the first time in four years" that snow had fallen at all on the southern Shore.
