North Platte, NE Breaks All-Time Snow Record
North Platte, Nebraska not only exceeded their seasonal average snowfall during the month of October 2009 (a month which normally only brings 5%)... they broke the all-time snowiest month record there with over 30 inches! According to ThreadEx, records have been maintained there since 1874. Snow is not unprecedented in October there, but it is unusual; prior to 2009, only 3 of the last 10 years had featured any snow there, and never more than 5 inches for the entire month.
The snowstorm last week that dropped about a foot was centered over Lincoln County and was the second foot of snow for the month (and third snowstorm!) The highest amounts reported in the county during either snowstorm were 17 inches eight miles WNW of the city on October 10th, and 15 inches near Sutherland on October 30th.
