Jim in Illinois:
Is this to place to respond to the "Hurricane or Not" story?
"So what else would you call a storm that behaves and has impacts like a hurricane in winter? You can decide for yourself if we made the right call or not."
My answer is no, you got it wrong.
It's a "Burricane!"
Make sure you name me as your collaborator when you win the Pulitzer.
FROM JESSE: Thanks Jim :)

Cape Elizabeth, ME: 94 mph gust
Portland, ME Jetport: 78 mph gust
Scarborough, ME: 8.38" rain
Portland, ME: 6.22" rain
(good thing this was not snow)
The damage around here is definitely more typical of a strong tropical storm or minor hurricane. While the NWS issued a High Wind Warning and Flood Watches I think they underestimated the impact of this storm. I think Accuweather did a good job of communicating the impact of the storm which the Nation press picked up on.
Unfortunately, the DC area got our 'Northeasters' earlier in the season and it has been pretty quite out here this year. Though, it has been humorous to see how they handle the typical New England weather.

Hey Jesse. Plows woke me up at 1:45 am and just checked pressure. Here in Malvern, PA (Philly suburb) we are at about 29.17Hg. Earlier this evening my Dad in Central Massachusetts called me with his pressure reading of 28.85. Wow!! Winds here are fierce although we're lucky to still have power. Our snow amounts so far not too impressive compared to our previous 2-foot plus storms, but it appears we're on the way to at least 12".

Sami in Sussex county's (Vernon,NJ)
Snow Depth measures 21 inches on my deck at 11:45pm Thursday night 2/25/10
I am really worried about the giant piles of snow hanging down my trees with some hanging over wires which are being stretched to the limit.
Here in Sussex county if we lose power we also lose water and heat. The water is supplied by wells which need electricity to be pumped up.
Praying for the wind to shake the snow off the trees.

8:15 p.m. and over 26 inches of snow. Here comes the wind. Tree limbs are starting to drop and the lights have flickered a few times. I have back up power but not back up cable. If I loose internet access how will I be able to follow Accuweather.com all night long-Ugh!!! Thanks for all the advanced warnings. I don't know how my poor dog will ever be able to go out tonight.
FROM JESSE: Thanks for checking in, stay safe, send us some pictures to Facebook.com/AccuWeather if you can
