Nor'easter brings high winds, snow, storm surge
The low pressure system that brought the tornadoes to the Southeast over the weekend has blossomed into a full-fledged nor'easter today, bringing snow to interior New England and high winds and storm surge to the coast. Here's what it looks like at about noon ET:
Reports of power lines and trees down in eastern Massachusetts started this morning; winds have gusted to 69 mph with waves to 20 feet off the Massachusetts coast.
Tide levels were up across the coast; nearly 50 reports of coastal flooding had been filed as of noon from Virginia to Maine, including water on I-195 in Boston.
At Kings Point, New York, water levels were at least 3.5 feet above normal, though some data was missing:
I created a GIF animation of storm surge from our AccuCam at The Village Restaurant in Chincoteague, Virginia, from yesterday morning, evening and this morning. Northerly winds were pushing water from Chincoteague Bay into Oyster Bay and up Eel Creek:
Up to 8.5 inches of snow fell in Pennsylvania as of 8 a.m. ET, and more is on the way for New England.
Here's a look at a water vapor satellite image loop for the storm:
