NOAA: Warmest Global Winter, But US...
NOAA's report for Winter 2006-2007 indicates that it was the warmest winter on record since 1880 -- for the whole Earth. Meanwhile here in the U.S. our seasonal temperature ended up near normal but February was 1.8 degrees below normal and many cold records were broken. I was intrigued by the monthly and daily record summaries.
The February maps really show the cold spell well:
Highlights of the unusually cold spell in February from the Record Summaries mentioned above:
- 9 Monthly Records Were Set (0 Warm)
- 17 Monthly Snow Records Were Set
- Hundreds of Daily Low Temp & Snow Records Were Set
