NEW Hi-Res WRF Take on Friday NE Winter Storm
UPDATE: I have animated the maps below and added snow cover maps.
This is how the 12Z (24-48 hour forecast, just processed at 5 PM) 4-KM WRF Simulated Snow/Ice/Rain Radar says things will play out. In theory, this model should do the best because its higher resolution will be able to resolve small, local geographical factors that could influence how the snow and ice bands behave as the storm moves through. However, we have proven before on this blog that the model is not infallible, and still has to guess the overall weather situation correctly to start with.
This is from 7 AM Friday through 4 AM Saturday morning. Note that this model does not think that ice will be a problem in lowering snow amounts outside of Pennsylvania.
Speaking of snowfall amounts, with the disclaimer that, in my opinion, this model usually overestimates snowfall considerably, here is the estimated snow cover (note that it decreases in some areas after rain melts the snow). I would suggest cutting these amounts in half.
