NE Storms Kill Power for 450,000
Severe thunderstorms struck southeastern Pennsylvania yesterday evening. Bloomerg.com reports that nearly half a million people lost power during the height of the storms and nearly 300,000 were still without power this morning. AccuWeather.com staff at our Philadelphia office report that the power will be out at their location through the weekend.
The storms were slow moving and fairly impressive. A radar animation of the PA storms is available here.
Hail up to golf-ball size (1.75" in diameter) was reported in New Holland, PA. 60 mph winds were reported at Spring Glen. And how lucky did THIS guy get? Reminds me of some of my experiences during Hurricane Fran.
Trees straddle a truck after a storm struck Phoenixville, Pa., Tuesday, July 18, 2006. The driver, who would not identify himself, said he swerved when the tree on the left fell, then the tree behind the truck fell. The storm dropped temperatures but added damage to southeastern Pennsylvania. (AP Photo/George Widman)
