NASA: T-Storms Affect Space Wx
Thanks to blog reader Kim for this tip. NASA says this week that thunderstorms over the rain forests of Africa and South America are affecting the state of the ionosphere (turbulence forecasts there are important to predict radio and GPS signals).
They say that "tides of air" generated by the thunderstorms reshape bands of plasma in the ionosphere, creating dense zones which propagate around the globe. It's the first time that a relationship between weather on Earth and Space "Weather" -- the condition of the electrically charged upper-atmosphere.
