Morning MCC off Carolina Coast
Residents of the Carolinas awoke this morning, looked at their AccuWeather.com Enhanced Infrared Satellite image, and screamed "Aaaaaaaaaaa!"

But fear not, it's no Tropical Storm, it's just your neighborhood MCC [JessePedia]. Here's a look at the lightning on top of the visible satellite via AccuWeather.com RadarPlus:

The shadowed object at the right is an overshooting top, where the updraft to the thunderstorm is so intense that it punches out through the top of the anvil. I took a picture of one of these from a plane once, they are pretty neat.
As you can see if you download this radar loop from RadarPlus, the storms are forming in the same areas, barely moving in some cases, which has led to copious rain amounts offshore, to the tune of 5-10 inches according to the Doppler Estimates map. The storm started overnight, as MCCs do, and really blew up after 2 AM:
