More Flooding in Northwest North Carolina
After suffering through major flooding on Tuesday, northwest North Carolina is in the crosshairs again today. At 2:39 PM the NWS issued a Flood Warning which was later updated saying...
"A FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 830 PM EDT FOR SOUTHEASTERN WILKES COUNTY... AT 345 PM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR CONTINUED TO INDICATE MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN OVER PARTS OF THE WARNED AREA. NWS DOPPLER RADAR ESTIMATES THAT 1 TO 2 INCHES OF RAIN HAS FALLEN BETWEEN MORAVIAN FALLS AND W. KERR SCOTT RESERVOIR IN THE PAST FEW HOURS. UP TO AN ADDITIONAL INCH IS POSSIBLE IN THE NEXT FEW HOURS."
Other flood warnings were issued to the west south of Blowing Rock... both were based on Doppler Radar rainfall estimates shown below. As of this writing, no reports of flooding have been received today on Google News or Twitter.
I updated Tuesday's blog entry with new news regarding a collapse of U.S. 421 in Wilkesboro, and why the Yadkin River gauge may not have seemed as high as it should have.
