Models on the Return of Hurricane Fred
The models are hinting that the remnants of Hurricane Fred may come back to life and threaten the East Coast next week (something Frank Strait hinted at last night). Here's what the tracks look like as of the overnight runs:
One model is even suggesting it may be a hurricane (yellow dots above) by the time it gets to the Bahamas in a few days.
Although Fred was "de-declared" when he dropped below Tropical Depression strength due to shear, his circulation has since looped around and is heading west. I have attempted to draw in a sloppy, generalized track based on satellite below.
AccuWeather.com Professional's Joe Bastardi [BIO] (PRO USERS READ NOW | 30-DAY FREE TRIAL) said in his blog this morning:
Fred looks respectable on satellite with a wide circulation and thunderstorms. The NHC says "ALTHOUGH THE SYSTEM CONTINUES TO PRODUCE INTERMITTENT SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS...THE SURFACE CIRCULATION HAS BECOME LESS WELL-DEFINED OVERNIGHT. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS ARE NOT PARTICULARLY CONDUCIVE FOR RE-DEVELOPMENT [IN THE NEXT 48 HOURS]"
If the storm does reform to NHC's meteorological specifications for a tropical storm, will it be named Fred? Perhaps... but maybe not, it's up to them.
