A weak, late-season April storm system caused snow to fall across the Virginias and Maryland overnight. In North Carolina, a trace of snow fell as far south as Winston Salem, Greensboro and Raleigh. Some of these amounts from the Appalachians were a combination of the storm system passing through and lake-effect snow falling; lake-effect snow reached as far south as Andrews, North Carolina, near the South Carolina border, according to NWS observations.
